About Us
Our Story
On October 11, 2020, in response to a call discerned in prayer, a team of dedicated parents and educators began building Saint Thomas More Academy. Their mission today remains the same as it was from the start: to provide a Catholic classical K-12 education for all of our children—an education that leads them to wisdom enlivened by charity. STMA opened its doors to 45 students in grades K-5 in August, 2021. In 2022, STMA added a middle and upper school, welcoming 145 students in grades K-12. In June of 2023, STMA was granted canonical recognition as a Catholic school, becoming the first independently governed Catholic school in the diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
A distinctive community rooted in friendship and love of God, STMA seeks to educate students as integrated persons:
- STMA provides a rigorous classical liberal arts education that liberates the mind by giving students the traditional tools of learning, so that throughout their lives they might read insightfully, think rigorously, write beautifully, and speak articulately (the arts of the Trivium), and understand the language of the natural world (the arts of the Quadrivium).
- Students receive a unified vision of reality through a uniquely integrated curriculum, in which academic disciplines are interwoven to illuminate God’s providential design for human history and the wisdom present in all aspects of creation. Stories play a central role in our curriculum, broadening students’ experience of human beings and their history. STMA’s curriculum introduces its students to the larger community to which they belong, a community of the living and the dead, by transmitting Catholic culture.
- To preserve contact with reality, STMA strives to give its students as much experience of the natural world as possible, and promotes a hands-on, observational approach to the natural sciences.
- Since beauty enlivens the soul and draws the person towards truth and goodness, Music, Art, and Drama are an integral part of the curriculum.
- At STMA, students are formed not only in intellectual virtues, but also in the moral virtues that equip them to love God and neighbor with attentiveness and joy. They are given high ideals of service and magnanimity to pursue throughout their lives, and they are encouraged to practice embodying these in their daily work.
- STMA understands that each student is a unity of body and soul, and gives students time throughout the day to exercises their bodies. STMA also provides many extracurricular athletic opportunities.
- Above all, STMA seeks to foster an apostolic community of friendship in Christ, the true source of wisdom and charity. Students are brought into contact with Christ and His Church through the daily celebration of the Mass, weekly opportunities for Confession, and a daily rhythm of prayer. Students learn their identity as children of God and understand that they have a unique mission to fulfill in God’s plan for the salvation of the world.
STMA is convinced that growing in wisdom and charity, in a beautiful community of friends, brings authentic joy. We welcome you and your family to join us in the quest for wisdom! For more information or to inquire about enrollment, please email [email protected] or call 574-222-9195 Ext. 101.
